 Train to Cologne, Aug. 2005

Appear in the Uniforum

I appear in the Uniforum, local newspaper of Giessen. They explained to me that presentation of a person normally only occupy a small column. That's enough. I'm not an important person. However, it is too narrow to cut me only, so I hope Prof. Dr. Christian Hamm (new professor of Uni-Giessen and we never met) would not mind to appear in my blog.

I know little about Deutsch (text is Deutsch). However, I can guess (from my poor knowledge of Deutsch) it is a very brief introduction of me, my work and academic relations here. Prof. W. Scheid is quite happy. He said: I have many guests in the past 30 years, you are the first one appears in the newspaper. Several colleagues met me and asked: do you know you are in the newspaper? Yes, of course I know. They came to me and asked for some basic informations and one photo in my office.

It is recommended by someone in the International Office of Uni-Giessen, from where I have got lots of helps before and after I came to Giessen. Once a time, I sat in Ms. Silvia Boide's office (she already moves to other department now). She said to me: you are brave! Yes, she used the word "brave". I was very impressed. I knew she refered to the fact that I came Germany with my three-years-old son together alone. And then I knew, to other people, I was brave. Actually, to me, full of fear. I worried about almost everything at that time. One year later, it proves not bad. My son can speaks Deutsch, has several best friends and several favourite teachers in the kindergarten now. He is happy as I mentioned in the last post. I also spent a pleasant time here.

Happiness!

Are you happy?
When you see this question, you must be bothered. Thus a  question must have been asked hundreds of times in your life. Now, you just hate to give an answer. Sometimes, I belive happiness is in your blood no matter you have got what you want or not.

This morning, when I was half-awake, struggled against my sleepiness and tried to open my eyes. Something hit me on my legs heavily. I opened my eye, and saw a bright, healthy and happy face. My son already got up, climbed up to my legs and sat there began to wear his socks, completely happy. I think he was happy no any reason. It is not because he can wear his socks by himself or he can sit on my legs to wear it. He even did not notice one of his feet almost toughing my face. When I asked for a early morning hug to help his mama to get up, he slipped away, still happy!

I just came back from mensa half an hour ago. Today, roast chicken is served there, exactly half a chicken (one leg, one wing, half a body, without head of course) !! The staff there must notice my shocked face since she expressed her sympathy and kindly informed me to pick up a bread for free. "Ja, take it!" this is what she said. More than half a month, I was sick of food. This should be a big news, especial to my sister. To her, I'm addicted to eating always. She often talk about me, when I was a little girl, the first sentence I spoke to my mother, after I opened my eyes in the morning, often was: could I have a candy?  She can not image how a person could so fond of sweets.

Germany 47-years-old elevator

There are four elevators for three entrances in the institute of theoretical physics, Justus-Liebig-University Giessen. All are produced in 1966. My office is on the third floor. Normally, I take the middle one which is more close to my office.  The old elevator is diligent and has its own habit, that is: it alway climbs up to the 5th floor (the very beginning), then can fulfill its real work. Every morning (actually everytime, morning always mean something), I press the button "3", then the elevator almost alway (around 90% chance) goes up to the 5th floor, then goes down and stops on the 3rd floor. Actually, it is not too bad. it means sometime you can get surprise: it can stop on the 3rd floor exactly when it passed for the first time (around 10% chance). Then, I'm happy. Today would be a lucky day! I had to say I like this old elevator somehow!

This is the oldest elevator I have been in. But I'm not sure whether a age of 47-years-old is really old for a elevator (device). For a man, 47-years-old is still at the most wonderful time in his life.

Lunch club seminar: it is not easy to say LOVE YOU

Today's lunch club seminar is given by Prof. Kurt Langfeld in School of Computing and Mathematics, University of Plymouth, UK. He talks about the simulation of cold and dense matter (mainly concerning these two papers PRL e111601 and prd.e114504). His talk is good overall. This is not the piont of this post. I will not comment too much.

I did not often attend the lunch club since most of topic is hadron physics. But okay, actually, I do not mind spend the lunch time in a lecture room to listen to some topic far from mine. But, the pizza provided is really not good: too big, too dry, too much salt. After such a lunch, I will keep drinking all the afternoon, like a cow. Still, there are salad alternative. I ordered salad for three times. Salad tastes better. But, I had to say I'm really a bad luck audience. Whenever I choose salad, the speakers always have such a tiny voice. The low-voice-speaker stands 3 meters away from me whereas the fresh salad's crisp sounds about 10 millimeters away from my ear. Finally, I have had a lunch in the noise of some physics. At the same time, fish is served in the mensa (Lunch club always takes place at fish friday) .

Starting today, there is a new menu for lunch club. The salad is improved with a little bit higher quality, smaller quantity, no more bread attached and 2 Euro higher price. I finished the salad before Prof. Langfeld started his lecture today. So, today's seminar is good except I was hungry all the afternoon, searched food in all the office.

Anyway, if you have interesting in the lunch club seminar in institute of theoretical physics, uni-Giessen, you can check here: Lunch club seminar and go to the 4th floor of the physics building, with a beer if you want, just like Prof. 0_0 today. :-).

Let's start

Eight years ago, when I was a PhD student, my roomate began to blog her Blog. I visited it and feel good. But I decided not. I feared I may engaged too much, and I feared I may engaged too little. Moreover, I prefer to the paper note book. Just like I always read paper books whereas not E-books. I like the old stuff.

On a sudden, the idea came to my mind "yes, I will write my own blog". I guess I needn't give a reason here. Just let's start.

I'm a nuclear physicist, female. Topic here will not be limited on nuclear physics or physics. Here will appear what I see, hear, think,..., all the fun stuff. Enjoy it!
