Lunch club seminar: it is not easy to say LOVE YOU

Today's lunch club seminar is given by Prof. Kurt Langfeld in School of Computing and Mathematics, University of Plymouth, UK. He talks about the simulation of cold and dense matter (mainly concerning these two papers PRL e111601 and prd.e114504). His talk is good overall. This is not the piont of this post. I will not comment too much.

I did not often attend the lunch club since most of topic is hadron physics. But okay, actually, I do not mind spend the lunch time in a lecture room to listen to some topic far from mine. But, the pizza provided is really not good: too big, too dry, too much salt. After such a lunch, I will keep drinking all the afternoon, like a cow. Still, there are salad alternative. I ordered salad for three times. Salad tastes better. But, I had to say I'm really a bad luck audience. Whenever I choose salad, the speakers always have such a tiny voice. The low-voice-speaker stands 3 meters away from me whereas the fresh salad's crisp sounds about 10 millimeters away from my ear. Finally, I have had a lunch in the noise of some physics. At the same time, fish is served in the mensa (Lunch club always takes place at fish friday) .

Starting today, there is a new menu for lunch club. The salad is improved with a little bit higher quality, smaller quantity, no more bread attached and 2 Euro higher price. I finished the salad before Prof. Langfeld started his lecture today. So, today's seminar is good except I was hungry all the afternoon, searched food in all the office.

Anyway, if you have interesting in the lunch club seminar in institute of theoretical physics, uni-Giessen, you can check here: Lunch club seminar and go to the 4th floor of the physics building, with a beer if you want, just like Prof. 0_0 today. :-).

  1. Sometimes when we have lunchtime seminars I really wish they were not at lunchtime. Especially when I'm sitting next to some who is eating really noisily, and I can only hear them and not the speaker :-(

    1. Lectures about the detailed academic works should be treated seriously, I think. If somebody give a general talk about one particular field, it would be nice as a lunchtime seminar.
